Course outline - Discovery Camp - Cohort 18

To experiment the unknown to awake a healthy  curiosity and positive attitude for what is different  (culture, knowledge, ideas...) to open minds for collaborative work and strategic thinking;

To adapt a relevant management style in different circumstances;

To make it happens collectively as responsible leaders in a new collaborative economy;

What ethics mean?

To get results despite the complexity generated by collective work in a multicultural and worldwide context;

To introduce some concepts linked to emotional intelligence, sustainability responsible social behaviors, new communication (social network, interactive media) and innovation;

How to develop strategic thinking?

How to encourage collective intelligence in a group?

How to become a better leader?

How to help a team to be more creative and innovative?

How to define contemporary strategic communications and encourage responsible social and sustainable behaviors?

How to add value and bring a contribution to society ?

How to encourage ethics in all aspects of business and management?

The main activity of the course is devoted to the preparation of a collective creative work and the organization of a public event involving the community.

The contribution is to help the students to develop human qualities to become a better leader, to facilitate team building, to encourage creativity, collective inntelligence, communication and innovation, to understand the key role of culture in all parts of life.

The students will be in link with a new media on art and creation, Les Cahiers de l'Imaginaire and their different artists, social and business partners.

Reading and writing
The teaching method for the theoritical parts is based on lecture, student reading some articles and books (among them, City of Intelligences, The Third Industrial Revolution, Soft Power and Wired for culture) and keeping an e-diary to express their thoughts and stimulate their memory;

Philosophical conversations
Personal reflection will be followed by conversations on specific themes to give the group the opportunity to share their different points of view and learn from others;

Learning by doing
From the theory to practice, they will have to create a creative collective work that will be the tribute of their cohort to the ESC School of Business after they left. Afterward, their work will be permanently exhibited at the school.

Social responsability, sustainability and communication
As a final work, they will organize a public event involving the community to share what they have appreciated most in this scholar venture to regive something to the community.

1 — REFLEXION – 20%
As a personal work, students will keep an e-diary “My EMBA” where they will keep notes of what they consider the most important in their learning journey.

Their thoughts has to relate to the readings, conversations and experiments during the class and could also include other courses apprenticeship.

Criteria:  Quality of the thoughts, punctuality – the teacher will have to receive it a week before each course.

Their intellectual contribution to the conversations during the courses based on the readings suggested.

Criteria: Quality of their contribution, ideas that help strategic reflexion. Curiosity. Active participation. Sharing of what they have read.

As a collective work they will create a totem together.

Criteria:  Participation to bring innovative solutions, to get results by including the ideas of the majority. Creativity. Qualities of a leader in a collective leadership project (team player). Respect of the deadlines and commitments. Each student could bring different skills, they will be evaluated on their contribution, but also on their capacity to keep the team together during all the process, to make sure that everyone contributes.

Organization of a public event to launch their collective work and bring something to society .

Criteria:  Personal contribution for the organization of the event, communication strategies, qualilty of the event, number of participants and feedback of the public. The value added to a group (children, old people, homeless...)

Collective leadership and collaborative work.

The students will be invited to participate to the evaluation of their peers.

Criteria based on values the group decided to honor during their EMBA, for example:
(Honesty – Integrity — Openess – Respect — Altruism — Humor  — Diversity — Humility — Fairness - Sharing). They will be evaluated on their good judgement and ability to analyze.

Conversation, presentation, intention

Introduction to the approach of collective intelligence developed by Sylvie Gendreau in City of Intelligences and explanation of the e-diary process.

To prepare them to strategic thinking, during all the program, each student will have to take notes of what is important to them in this learning adventure, what they really want to remember afterward and how it helps them in other parts of their professional life. 

Part one : City of dreams

Introduction of how to use imagination to set out in conquest of the self and to develop emotional and rational intelligences. Explanation of the key role of narrative : the bridge between dreams, visions and reality. The tool that helps to build civilization and a personal story.

Exercise: Each student will have to answer to some introspective questions and present themselves to the class.

Sharing houghts and ideas about management, entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation, society in general and life The group will commit about the values they want to live by during the program.

Exercises to help them to know each other faster and develop more confidence between them – team building.

Introduction about art, nature and culture – Special meeting at cultural and artistic places (FRAC and DRAC).

Conversation about the role of culture in management, business  and society and about what repesents for them a TOTEM. And how link it to the values they want to promote? A brain storming to make them work on a first concept of the collective work they would like to create.
